One of Vancouver’s most anticipated annual fundraisers celebrated its 27th year with an incredible achievement, raising more than $3 million for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS). Bringing together some of the city’s most prominent business leaders and philanthropists, this year’s Daffodil Ball, Flourish, will help ensure people diagnosed with brain cancer—both locally and across Canada—live longer, fuller lives.
Since 1997, the Daffodil Ball has raised more than $25 million for the cancer cause. Funds from this year’s gala will be directed toward two brain cancer grants that are part of CCS’s recently announced Breakthrough Team Grants program, designed to improve outcomes for low-survival cancers, including brain cancer. Both grants are in partnership with Brain Canada, an innovative collaborator who contributed $1 million in matched funds.
A portion of proceeds raised will also support CCS’s ongoing delivery of compassionate support programs to help people diagnosed with brain cancer, their family and caregivers navigate their cancer experience, including a nationwide helpline, an online peer-to-peer community, transportation services and the Vancouver Lodge located at the Centre for Cancer Prevention and Support.

This year’s Daffodil Ball was presented by long-time sponsor Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. and organized by a committee of dedicated business leaders and humanitarians, led by committee co-chairs Jennifer Traub, Meghan Brown and Jill Arias.
Returning for the first time in four years as an entirely in-person event at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, guests were able to enjoy an intimate dinner and live entertainment, including a special performance by Canadian music icon Jim Cuddy, who paid tribute to his friend Gord Downie who died of brain cancer in 2017.
Guests had the opportunity to bid on a variety of luxury items in both live and silent auctions, presented by Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel. An annual ball tradition, attendees were also thrilled to take part in the Diamond Raffle for a chance to win a stunning 1.52 carat, brilliant Black Label ideal cushion cut diamond, generously donated by Lucara Diamond Corp, valued at nearly $60,000. New this year was the Daffodil Pot of Gold 50/50 raffle. The 50/50 is open to all BC residents and tickets are on sale until the end of April at cancer.ca/daffodilpotofgold.
