When Lloyd Hetherington learned he had prostate cancer, the news was devastating for more than one reason. Not only did the diagnosis come as a shock to him and his wife Kathy, but Lloyd also learned he would have to travel 21 hours to receive treatment – which put even more stress on his family.
Unsure of what to do, Kathy called the Canadian Cancer Society and learned about the Travel Treatment Fund (TTF), a service that provides financial coverage for cancer patients who must travel far from home to receive treatment. Thanks to the support of CCS donors – who make the TTF possible – Lloyd was able to receive his treatment at the hospital throughout the week and return home on the weekends.
“To all the CCS donors who help fund services like the Travel Treatment Fund, keep doing what you're doing,” says Kathy. “It’s been wonderful receiving the funding and having that help.”
