Results of the September 2019 CCS/CIHR Cancer Survivorship Team Grants, in partnership with ACF Competition

We are pleased to announce the recipients of the CCS/CIHR Cancer Survivorship Team Grants, in partnership with the Alberta Cancer Foundation (ACF). The goal of the program is to improve the health outcomes for cancer survivors of all ages from the time of their cancer diagnosis until the time of their death or entry into end-of-life care. Collectively, successful teams will be expected to generate relevant new knowledge and to develop and evaluate practical strategies and interventions, in real world settings, that will prevent or diminish the adverse sequelae of a cancer diagnosis and have a positive impact on subsequent health outcomes for cancer survivors.

Below is a listing of the funded CCS/CIHR Cancer Survivorship Team Grants, in partnership with ACF.

6 Team Grants have been approved - 22% of all full proposals received. 33 Abstracts were submitted to the competition and following a relevance review 31 of these were invited to submit full applications, and 27 were received. Grants are valued at up to $2.5M over a 5-year term. The initial budget for this competition was $10 million and 4 grants, but with the support of the Alberta Cancer Foundation and McMaster University, we were able to award 6 grants. These 6 new grants represent a significant investment of nearly $13.4 million.

*Update – December 2020:

As a result of strong fundraising results over the fall, CCS was able to fund some additional high-quality grants, including a 7th Cancer Survivorship Team Grant. This brings the success rate for this competition up to 26%, and the full investment in this competition up to just over $15.6M.
